I like watching the Amazon series Mozart in the Jungle. Maestro Rodrigo De Souza, the unconventional conductor of the New York Symphony who has frequent conversations with Mozart, thinks that oboist Hailey Rutledge “plays with the blood.” Actually, “playing with the blood” is one of the most important skills a musician should have in Rodrigo’s mind.
